"I do not belong to the Baader-Meinhof Group." Thousands of young
Germans put these stickers on their cars (especially BMWs) in the early 1970s in an
effort to dissuade overeager police from pulling them over. The
stickers were as much a political statement as a practical one; they
told the conservative German population that despite being young and
having long hair, not everyone was in the Baader-Meinhof Gang. Now
available for the first time in three decades, an exact reproduction
of the famous bumper sticker. |
Millions of these and similar posters seemed to spring up overnight in post offices, on lamp posts, and in store windows across West German in 1971. With almost as many women as men spread across four rows, this poster represented a direct challenge to the conservative, patriarchal German population. For German youth, these posters were as engaging to them as they were frightening to their parents. Now available for the first time in three decades, an exact reproduction of the famous poster. |
In the weeks following the armed freeing of Andreas Baader from police custody, thousands of these posters featuring Ulrike Meinhof were posted throughout West Berlin. The headline reads "Attempted Murder in Berlin, 10,000 DM Reward," a reference to the shooting of an elderly librarian during the operation. Now available for the first time in three decades, an exact reproduction of the famous poster. |
